Care Tips

Get the most out of your extensions!

Some things that you should know.
1 ...Shampoo and condition your hair every 3-4 days. The extensions do not receive your natural scalp oils and so need to have moisture added every wash. If you don't moisturise your hair extensions they will become brittle and break easily leading to split and ratty ends.
2 ... Always brush out all knots before you wash your hair, swim, or sleep. Start at the bottom and work your way up slowly using a paddle brush.
3 ... Be sure to brush out the hair and remove all tangles before washing it. This short step is useful in preventing knots that can be locked in from the water.
4 ... Be sure to brush out the hair and remove all tangles before washing it. This short step is useful in preventing knots that can be locked in from the water.
5 ... Do not colour your own hair extensions at home.
6 ... To prevent tangling, run your fingers through the extensions.
7 ... Do not use any comb from the scalp down
8 ... Avoid washing hair face down.
9 ... Absorb water with a Towel Wrap, never dry with a scrubbing action.
10 ... Bonds shouldn't stay wet for long periods ie never sleep with wet hair.
11 ... Never use any product with sulfur in it (dandruff shampoos).
12 ... Use blow dryer on medium setting, never apply hot curling iron directly to bond.
13 ... You should have your extensions checked every six weeks or so to ensure they are functioning correctly and to add to or reposition them.
14 ... Gently tie your hair up while sleeping and never sleep with wet hair.
15 ... With the summer weather you will not want to miss out in dips in the pool or ocean because of your new hair. Carefully comb out any tangles that may be present starting from the bottom and working your way up. Once the hair has been detangled braid the hair in two braids to ensure that all of the hair is protected. Following your dip, be sure to wash your hair immediately to remove any damaging chemical.

General Information

Extensions need maintaining and looking after - you cannot have extensions because you think it is an easy way out of doing your own hair. They need conditioning, gentle brushing and straightening. You have to be willing to spend time on them and have patience to look after them otherwise they will not stay in good condition. Longer extensions tend to be harder to look after than shorter ones and at first it may be difficult to sleep as your head is not used to the bonds. It will not always be like this, after a few days you will not even know they are in.

Extensions may also itch for a few days, this tends to be just above the nape of your neck, in the middle, and around your crown as these are the most sensitive parts of your scalp. If this is the case please persevere as again it is your head getting used to the weight and bonds. You cannot have twice as much hair and often three times the length put in and expect to get used to it straight away, some people have no trouble whatsoever but every now and then someone may have a very very, sensitive scalp and it will take more adapting to. Do not give up straight away or think the worst! if it does continue for more than 3 days please come back into the salon.

Naturally we lose around 100 of our own hairs per day and these are the hairs which would usually have fallen out but can't drop to the floor because of the extensions, do not worry it is not the extensions pulling your hair out!

You will also lose some bonds during the time your extensions are in. This is very normal and happens with all bonded extensions. You should expect to lose around 1 -10 bonds, sometimes slightly more, and sometimes clients don't lose any at all! if you lose an excessive amount i.e 20 in one day, please come back into the salon so we can fix your hair and see where after care for your hair extensions can be improved.
